What Exactly is CBD?

Jan 22, 2020 | CBD

“CBD” is all over the news, on the shelves at the supermarket, in drug stores and online in stores like Amazon. CBD products have even been found in some of the big box stores. Do you have questions about CBD? The issue that we have found over and over is that the employees at these stores do not have any education, information or answers about the CBD products in their stores. This can leave consumers feeling uncomfortable and must guess at what to use and how much. Another problem is whether CBD products will negatively interact with medications. The answer to that is: it depends.

What exactly is CBD? Cannabidiol (CBD), is one of over 100+ cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis/hemp plants. These phyto (plant) cannabinoids interact with our bodies Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS plays a vital role in keeping our bodies in balance and to promote homeostasis. Our bodies have two known cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2. Both CBD and Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) affect or react to these receptors and transmit messages throughout the body where the CB1 and CB2 receptors are found. Our bodies also produce our own internal cannabinoids.

Anandamide and 2-arachidonoyl glycerol (2-AG). If the body is deficient in its own cannabinoid production the body may become out of balance and illness may result. Phyto-cannabinoids, from the hemp plant can be used to stimulate or replace the bodies lack of endogenous cannabinoid production.

Mosaic Wellness in Studio City opened with the intention of helping people discover the benefits of using CBD products along with other Lifestyle medicine practices to possibly help find some peace and wellness. The owner, Karin Clarke, a Certified Health/Cannabis Coach is passionate about helping people find alternative resources that are based on a holistic approach to health and wellness.

“Fixing an ill, with a pill” model of healthcare is not what Karin or the staff at Mosaic Wellness believe to be an effective health model. The same holds true for not promoting CBD products as a panacea and can resolve all your health needs. The shop offers an array of natural remedies, medicinal mushrooms for immune support, plant-based skin care, natural perfumes and oils, wellness classes and health coaching services.

Mosaic Wellness offers intimate class and session on purpose. Our maximum class size for Friday and Sunday evening Yoga, is six people. Everyone gets attention and everyone is invited, no levels or mirrors! MW also provides Sound baths, meditation and Reiki sessions. You can schedule an appointment for one on one health coaching, and we offer quarterly education classes on Saturday afternoons.

See you soon! – Karin Clarke
